Who Can Apply?
Here’s where many people make mistakes. They apply even if they don’t meet the requirements, thinking “Let’s see what happens.” But the bank will reject you later. So read this carefully:
- Education: You must be a graduate in any discipline. Professional qualifications like CA, ICWA, Engineering, or Medical degrees also work.
- Experience: You need at least 1 year of work experience as an officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or Regional Rural Bank.
Experience in NBFCs, Co-operative Banks, Small Finance Banks, or Fintech is NOT valid. - Language: You must know the local language of the state you’re applying for. If you’ve studied it in 10th/12th, you’re safe. Otherwise, you’ll have to pass a language test.
- Credit History: Your CIBIL score should be 680+. If you have any major loan defaults, they won’t consider you.
- Service Bond: You’ll have to work for at least 3 years, otherwise you’ll pay a ₹5 lakh penalty.
Selection Process
- Online Written Exam
- Psychometric Test (basically a personality test – don’t worry, just be yourself)
- Language Test (only if you didn’t study the local language in school)
- Group Discussion & Interview
Final merit list will be prepared based on your written exam + GD/Interview performance.
Salary & Perks
Now the good part – how much will you earn?
- Basic Pay: ₹48,480 – ₹85,920
- Plus DA, HRA, medical benefits, insurance, and performance incentives
- If you already have 1 year of banking experience, you get 1 extra increment
So overall, you can easily expect around ₹70,000+ per month, plus job security and pension.

My Personal Tips
- Don’t wait for the last date. Apply early – I’ve seen so many candidates cry because the site crashed on the last day.
- Prepare your documents in advance. Keep your photo, signature, experience certificate, and ID proof scanned and ready.
- Know the local language well. Even if you studied it in school, revise basic writing and reading.
- Revise banking basics. They will ask about current banking policies, RBI updates, and economic news.
- Don’t fake experience. They cross-check it with your previous bank.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying for a state whose language you don’t know.
- Entering wrong details in the application form (you can’t change later).
- Ignoring the service bond – remember, you have to stay for 3 years.
- Thinking “I’ll manage the interview without preparation” – banking interviews are tricky, they check your knowledge and attitude.
